Oct. 1 - Oct. 23, 2025

I spent one month living in Tulum, Mexico, which became one of the most eye-opening experiences of my life. Instead of staying in one place, I lived in three different neighborhoods—Las Palmas, La Veleta, and just outside Tulum Centro. This allowed me to experience the city not as a tourist, but as someone who was genuinely learning from the culture and daily rhythm of the people who live there.
I already have a deep love and respect for ancient history and the spiritual roots of different cultures, so being in the last of the Maya cities awakened something in me. I learned about Mayan astronomy, how birthdays align with their calendar, and how this shaped their worldview.
Visiting the ruins and supporting local Maya-owned businesses helped me connect to the place in a grounded, respectful way.
I also formed meaningful connections with people from across Mexico—many who had moved from Mexico City and shared their pride, stories, and reverence for their own cultural heritage. Hearing them speak about their homes and traditions sparked a strong desire in me to continue exploring Mexico more deeply, including Mexico City and Mérida in the Yucatán.
This month in Tulum didn’t just feel like travel—it felt like a doorway into a deeper understanding of culture, identity, and history. It strengthened my desire to continue traveling intentionally, learning directly from local communities, and carrying those insights with me. It was life-changing, and I’m grateful for it.
